National Resources

OVC administers the Crime Victims Fund (the Fund), which is financed by fines and penalties paid by convicted federal offenders, not from tax dollars. Federal revenues deposited into the Fund also come from gifts, donations, and bequests by private parties. OVC channels funding for victim compensation and assistance throughout the United States, raises awareness about victims’ issues, promotes compliance with victims’ rights laws, and provides training and technical assistance and publications and products to victim assistance professionals.

National Calendar of Crime Victim Assistance-Related Events created by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) to help victims, victim service providers, allied professionals, and other interested individuals plan, promote, and locate events of interest to the victim services community in their area. You are invited to browse events and to search for and add information about your own conference, meeting, training opportunity, ceremony, or upcoming occasion.

The National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) collects information from victims on nonfatal violent and property crimes, reported and not reported to the police, against persons age 12 or older from a nationally representative sample of U.S. households. It produces national rates and levels of personal and property victimization.

Through the Victim Services Unit, they operate a nationwide, toll-free helpline, offering information, referrals, written materials and advocacy to crime victims, service providers and other professionals. The helpline is staffed Monday through Friday, between 8:30 AM and 8:30 PM Eastern Standard Time.

National Association of Crime Victim Compensation Boards is to provide leadership, professional development, and collaborative opportunities to our members to strengthen their capacity to improve services to crime victims and survivors.  We share a vision of working together so that every victim compensation program is fully funded, optimally staffed, and functioning effectively to help victims cope with the costs of crime.
